There are currently ten active duty carriers in the United States Navy. The newest carrier in the fleet is the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) commissioned in January 2009. The USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN 78) is currently under construction and is scheduled to be christened fall 2013.
